Advocacy For Women

NCJWA is a proudly feminist and Zionist organisation guided by Jewish values that call on us to improve the lives of women, children, and families. Our central call to action is “Justice, Justice Shall You Pursue” (Bereshit 16:20).

We advocate on issues including but not limited to:

Gender equity
Domestic and family violence
Reproductive rights
Children's rights
Racism against Jewish women
Discrimination against women generally

Jewish Resilience Project

NCJWA is committed to building the strength, capacity and resilience of Jewish women in Australia in these momentous times. This project continues to develop but currently includes Listening Circles and Interactive Workshops.

Since October 8, 2023, in partnership with various Jewish organisations, NCJWA's president has been running 90-minute interactive workshops for members of the Jewish community - so far over 5,000 people have come to one.

The sessions usually take place in people's homes - 20 people is the minimum, but they vary in size and stretch to as many as the home can accommodate. Average size is usually about 50 people. The host is responsible for bringing the participants.

The workshop content has evolved as the situation has evolved. The latest one is called "Proactivity, Reactivity & Overreactivity: Pragmatic approaches to navigating this upside-down world".

There is no charge for the sessions, though people may wish to make a donation to a cause of the host's choice. NCJWA makes up the booking links and can incorporate this.

Listening Campaigns

Throughout its century-long history NCJWA has always been agile and responsive to the issues of the day.

Through two world wars, economic crises and social upheavals including positive movements towards Reconciliation and Marriage Equality, NCJWA has listened to its members. We still do.

We undertake regular Listening Campaigns to find out what issues Jewish women in Australia care about and what they want us to do about them. We ask them to rate our progress and invite feedback and new ideas.

NCJWA holds regular Salon events in private homes across Australia. The Salons provide an intimate and safe space in which Jewish women can engage with others from the wider community on issues of common concern.
